How Wordsworth Excavations powers progress with Sandvik QE342
Wordsworth Excavations, a leading name in earthworks, ground remediation and construction, based in Barnsley, has expanded its fleet with the addition of the Sandvik QE342 mobile scalper from Retec Equipment, the official Sandvik dealer for the UK and Ireland—a move that underscores their commitment to operational efficiency and sustainability.
As a family-run business known for its commitment to running only the most premium machinery, this latest addition reinforces Wordsworth’s’ dedication to quality, reliability, and productivity on-site.
Faced with increasing demand for high-volume material processing and the need to streamline their recycling operations, Wordsworth Excavations sought a solution that could handle tough materials while maintaining high throughput and reliability. Their existing equipment was reaching capacity limits, and downtime was becoming a concern.
After evaluating several options, Wordsworth Excavations chose the Sandvik QE342, a heavy-duty tracked mobile scalper known for its class-leading open scalping area and robust design. The QE342 is engineered to deliver up to 500 mtph (551 stph), making it ideal for demanding applications in construction, demolition, and recycling.
Versatility and reliability
The QE342 is one of the most versatile and reliable heavy-duty mid-size scalpers available on the market today. Purpose designed for durability, its crusher-style chassis incorporates a wear resistant rigid hopper and is compatible for 2-way or 3-way split configurations, as well as having the ability to interchange side conveyors.

Its heavy duty 16’ x 5’ / 4.7 x 1.45 m screen with high speed and aggressive throw is built for tough applications and can handle high volumes of infeed material. It offers user-friendly features for ease of operation, including an electrical control system which improves both operational effectiveness and machine safety, as well as two-speed tracking for faster mobility on site. The unit also comes fitted with My Fleet telematics as standard to optimize the machine performance and maximize productivity.
The QE342 has not only enhanced productivity but also aligned with Wordsworth Excavations' sustainability goals by offering fuel-efficient performance.
Best in class
They are currently using it to recycle material on site and have been really happy with the performance. Thomas Wordsworth, Managing Director at Wordsworth Excavations comments,
The QE342 really is the best in its class. The level of service provided by Sandvik also has been excellent and the dealer Retec, really listens to our requirements
This deal marks a continuation of a long-standing relationship between two trusted family businesses, built on decades of mutual respect and shared values.
“We’ve known the Herity family for over 25 years, so to now be doing business with the second generation — while also purchasing a premium brand like Sandvik — is truly fantastic.”
With this investment, Wordsworth Excavations continues to lead the way in combining technology, efficiency, and sustainability in the earthworks sector.
