Mead Construction put their trust in Sandvik once again
Local family company Mead Construction have recently taken delivery of a QJ241 mobile jaw crusher to upgrade their fleet of equipment in Cambridgeshire, UK. With over 35 years’ experience in the industry, they know their business and need reliable equipment which is built to deliver.
Mead Construction are a family owned business which was established by Martin Mead as a groundworks company in 1985. Over the past 35 years, Mead Construction has grown to include haulage, plant hire, muck-away, aggregate supplies & even a housing division. The company now employs over 50 local people and operates one of the largest grab fleets in Cambridge & Suffolk, consisting of over 200 units of heavy plant and machinery. Their philosophy to have a complete in-house solution, means that they are proud to offer their customers a comprehensive range of items for hire to run alongside their grab and aggregate services.
Already familiar with Sandvik and the benefits which the QJ241 jaw crusher has to offer, Mead Construction needed to upgrade their existing model which had served them well at their recycling depot in Cambridgeshire. The Sandvik jaw crusher is used to produce crushed hardcore from their two recycling depots in the area, which they then sell for collection or delivery to their customer base.
Compact and mobile, the QJ241 fits in right at home and is the ideal solution for their recycling application. With its substantial 1,000 x 650mm (40 x 26”) jaw, this highly productive machine brings the leading characteristics of the Sandvik jaw crusher range to sites where operating room is limited, yet high performance required. Richard Mead, Transport Manager comments,
The QJ241 is just the right size for our recycling depot, and is easy to operate
It comes fitted with a number of features purposefully designed for the recycling job at hand. These include a reversible jaw for relieving blockages, an overband magnet, a hydraulic raise and lower facility on the main conveyor for increased clearance and removal of rebar and a speed wheel also fitted to the main conveyor to stop the feeder when required and avoid any build-up of material on a heavily loaded conveyor. Common across the jaw crusher offering is also the hydraulic drive, which allows the crusher to start under load, maximizing output at all times.
Driving for a more sustainable solution
Reliable and robust, the QJ241 is powered by an emissions compliant 168 kW / 225 hp CAT engine to enhance fuel economy for lower cost of ownership and to reduce emissions by up to 45% for a lower carbon footprint. The QJ241 is also fitted with Sandvik Optitooth™ jaw plates as standard for longer wear life, increased throughput and reduced fuel consumption. Also equipped as standard is Sandvik My Fleet remote monitoring system with seven years’ complimentary data access included, which helps to minimize operator intervention and allow proactive planning of service and maintenance schedules, thereby maximizing uptime and allowing optimum output to be achieved.
Leading machine in its field
One of the reasons why Sandvik equipment was chosen was the reliability of the QJ241 and aftermarket support. Richard comments,
We use Sandvik because it is a leading machine in its sector with good back-up. We have had good experiences previously with Sandvik machines and it was an easy decision to invest with them again.
